You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support such men, that we may be fellow workers with the truth.
(3 John 6–8 NASB)
Being a sender of IW's is a wonderful opportunity to be a very important part of the global work our Father is doing. Individuals and churches can make such a difference in how the IW is sent.
Ways 2 Send IW's Effectively
Prayer is the most important support you can give an IW. Faithful, fervent, specific prayers lifted on behalf of the IW also allow you to be part of the work they are doing.
Prayer Ideas:
-
Ask others to join you in praying for IW's and the nations
-
If you are a church, share updated requests from IW's with study groups, Sunday School classes, and during your worship services.
-
Check in on IW's to see how you can specifically pray for them.
-
If you feel prompted to pray for them, do so, and then let them know. (see below for communication guidelines)
-
The district Way 2 Pray is updated every other month and can be found here. This tool contains specific requests from each of our WGLD International workers.
Encouraging relationship with IWs
-
Check in on your IW regularly. If you are part of your church's missions' team, suggest a person be assigned to each IW to help ensure that your church is in regular communication with them.
-
Remember birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays with messages or small gifts. (see below for communication guidelines)
-
Send care packages. (please note that it is best to ask your IW first. For some locations, the cost of receiving packages is significant. If so, it would be an added encouragement if you make sure to cover all shipping/receiving cost)

Financial Support
-
Each of our WGLD IW's depend upon both the Great Commission Fund (GCF) and personal support. More information on giving can be found here.
When your IW returns home for Home Assignment:
-
Welcome them home well. There are so many adjustments that people need to make when they move to their country of service, but also when they return to the States.
-
Although workers will be traveling to many churches on their Home Assignment "Tour", they want to share their stories. Ask them to share with you several highlights- and listen intently.
-
Workers may need time to rest and refuel, but don't hesitate to reach out to them. They want to spend time with their friends and acquaintances. Don't wait for them to call you, call them. If they are unavailable, they will let you know.
-
Can you fill their pantry? Provide a gas card? Surprise them with some gift cards to local restaurants? This would be helpful and unexpected.
-
When it is time for them to leave, can you help them gather needed supplies?
-
Does their home or apartment need cleaning before they depart? Extra hands would likely be appreciated.
-
Do they need childcare for an evening out? Maybe you have an excellent recommendation.
Ongoing Partnership
-
Sign up for IW updates and then read them. Send them a brief note of encouragement after you read their update.
-
Can you be part of a team that visits your IW? Planning for such a trip takes time, so don't delay.

Communicate Carefully!
With many of our international workers functioning in creative access situations that require special consideration due to security risks, it is always wise to ask your IW for specific instructions regarding your communication with them. Basic, general communication guidelines can be found here, but specific guidelines and preference vary from place to place and IW to IW.
